Peter was in the Navy on an aircraft carrier for Vietnam. The intense deployment cycle led him to self-medicating, like most of us have found ourselves doing. Eventually he found himself in San Francisco’s Art Institute studying film- that is where he accidentally stumbled across Transcendental Meditation (TM). The group of individuals he became friends with each had a mellowness to them, a sense of calm. The commonality was TM. He dedicated his life to it. In this episode Peter shares his insights on TM and the benefits he’s seen it give to those who are dealing with PTSD symptoms.
My favorite part of this chat is when Peter talks about getting better. Whether it be through meditation or with therapy, a person has to want to get better or see a need to improve the quality of their life. I saw that in myself and many of my friends. It seems to have taken an “ah ha” moment to start the desire within yourself to seek out ways to improve the current situation. There are endless ways to improve your life. This is an easy, simple way to help relieve stress and I hope you explore it a bit more if you find it interesting. I will be.
