The Trailblazer's Guide To College Admissions

21. How To Take Care Of Your Mental Health Through The College Admissions Process

Listen Later

Have you ever created a goal for yourself that was born out of joy or of following your own interest --and then set a timeline to accomplish it? Too often we set timelines with the intention of following through on them immediately, and, inevitably, we fall behind trying to meet these arbitrary timelines that we’ve made up for ourselves and what follows? Exhaustion, anxiety, and overwhelm from the self-induced pressure.

How can we relieve this pressure we feel around following our dreams?

In this episode, I talk about a very recent turning point in my own journey of applying to graduate school and my goals around this endeavor. I’m sharing my thought process, revelation, and recent decisions behind achieving this dream of mine because I have an educated hunch that you might be going through something similar.

What We Cover:

  • How my graduate school application led me to a revelation
  • The anxiety that comes from application and deadlines
  • Why we make up arbitrary timelines
  • The importance of having third party mentors
  • How to pursue your dreams without feeling pressured

“ Find a way. Instead of being all or nothing, how can you follow your dreams? Now. Even if it’s just a few hours a week, how can you relieve some of that pressure? How can you find more joy, more ease, more comfort, and more excitement in what you’re doing?”
