Michael Wu is the Co-founder and CEO of Amber Group. Michael graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College. He was also a visiting scholar at Oxford University in the PPE (Philosophy, Politics, and Economics) program. Upon graduating in 2013, Michael returned to Asia to work as a macro trader with Morgan Stanley in Hong Kong and later joined a $500M+ hedge fund as a portfolio manager. At the end of 2017, Michael went on to pursue his startup idea full-time and founded Amber Group with five other partners from Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs, and Bloomberg.
Amber Group started as a traditional quantitative trading firm and in three years and now has grown into one of the world’s leading crypto finance service providers, operating 24/7 with a presence in Hong Kong, Taipei, Seoul, and Vancouver. In 2019, the company raised $28 million in a Series A funding led by Paradigm and Pantera, with participation from Polychain Capital, Dragonfly Capital, Blockchain.com, Fenbushi Capital, and Coinbase Ventures. In the same year, Michael Wu made Forbes 30 Under 30 list.
