Welcome back, listeners! This is the last two-part conversation of our series: redefining the typical measures of success by flippin’ the script of the worldly narrative. We all want a “good life,” but that can look differently for everyone. It all comes down to being tuned into the heart of God and obedient to the call over our lives ––always for our good! C’mon!
Laura and Tara talk with Jason and Holly McCullough, close friends of theirs, and an integral part of their community of friends. Their journey of braving their abundance as they used their plentiful resources (ex: spiritual, relational, financial) to bet on themselves in another area of their lives (true identity & giftings = physical & intellectual) was quite the roller coaster ride! They were gritty and vulnerably raw as they exposed the truth of what it was like out of their comfort zone and into the “liminal space” they were called into.
This isn’t another story of quitting jobs to move into another vocation. It’s an invitation for listeners to strengthen their spiritual fortitude while becoming more aware of their responses while in the waiting. Does it become a time to innovate or hyperventilate?
Just in case you would like a reminder. The 5 capitals we all have in life as triune beings (body/soul/spirit) are:
Spiritual
Relational
Physical
Intellectual
Financial
Resources:
Oikonomics, Mike Breen & Ben Sternke
The Wheel of Fear: Tara is on the loser board –again! She reports what came of her and her husband encouraging their 15 year-old son to continue toward his goal of playing for his high school hockey team. His chances of making the team is slim due to the fact that the only level offered in their large school is varsity. They only carry about 18 players and many of them are returning next year.
The fear-based thought could be, “Why try?” So, why push (possible view from child’s perspective) or why encourage (parents’ choice wording) if the odds are against him? Through prayer (following peace) and convo with hubby and son, it feels like the right thing to do to go for it. No harm in trying. If we are following peace (Jesus is the Prince of Peace) than all outcomes are for his good.
Let’s go!!!
*Listener, this isn’t just applicable to a parent-child relationship. It can be hard to determine what might be best for a loved one who needs your support and guidance. Prayerfully following peace is always our best bet.
