"Going overseas was a bit of a leap of faith and I was kind of hoping that this kind of opportunity would pop up where I’d be able to meet someone, different meeting face to face and starting a relationship than doing it from all the way down here. Again, it was kind of like a lucky break, lucky coincidence I think helped by putting myself out there."

Steven is the co-founder of Scouted Football, an online publication which now do print, detailing the best under 23 Football (soccer) players on the planet.

Through this venture and his own endeavour, Stephen has travelled the world from Russia to the United Arab Emirates and plenty in between, meeting and developing strong bonds with people off the internet, and developing this movement that is Scouted Football.

In this episode we speak about;

  • The diversity in Football that allows people to follow their passions through things like fashion, stats and culture.
  • His enjoyment for writing and how he got himself work with The Guardian Australia whilst on the other side of the world. Writing articles about Usain Bolt amongst others.
  • How he ultimately grew his passion project into a potential world wide brand with followers dotted in all the continents of the globe.
  • Travelling through Europe alone (included getting mugged in Lyon - France) and what he learnt from being out of his comfort zone.
  • Reflecting on what it takes to produce work of a certain quality and maintain that.
