In a design thinking process, even when your observations are casual or semi-structured, it's very beneficial to have a framework to guide all your data around - this way you make sure to attend to all key information that comes up after synthesis of the data. And for this, you have the AEIOU framework - to categorise and collect valuable data on Actions, Environments, Interactions, Objects, and Users. Good for guiding any ethnographic, or observational method, AEIOU is based on an excerpt from the Universal Methods of Design.
