He pledged himself to Scully with finality. Now, Scully is the only one holding the pair back from progressing in their relationship. In an episode written and directed by the essence of Scully, herself, Gillian Anderson, Scully faces an internal crisis of faith and, like Mulder and his boy on the beach, Scully ultimately finds what she needs to move forward for herself and in her relationship with Mulder.
