Session 214, December 6, 1965: Time, Action, and the D.C. Chronicles

This session is packed with enough mind-bending philosophy and psychic "spying" to keep your inner self entertained for a few lifetimes.

The Illusion of the Clock

Seth kicked things off by essentially telling us that our wristwatches are lying to us. While we’re out here stressing about being five minutes late for coffee, Seth explains that time is just a filter we put over spontaneous action.

• Action vs. Time: According to Seth, all action is spontaneous. We only see "time" because our physical senses are like a slow-motion camera recording a sudden explosion.
• Intensity over Minutes: In the spirit realm, they don't use stopwatches; they use "intensity." A psychological experience is measured by how deep it hits, not how many minutes it takes.
• The Ego’s Game: Our egos love the idea of "past, present, and future" because it makes the ego feel like the boss. Seth calls these "artificial precepts of continuity."
• A Seth Insight: "All action is basically spontaneous. Only your perception of it adds the illusion of time to action. You think, for example, that any given action consumes or devours or takes up a certain amount of time. Therefore you think of time as something that contains action."

Psychic Spying: The "Cat Lover" in Washington

Seth has a bit of a funny bone, regularly referring to Peggy Gallagher as "the cat lover" (because she’s terrified of them) and Bill Gallagher as "the Jesuit" (due to his endless questions). Peggy was in D.C., and Seth decided to do a little remote viewing to see what she was up to.

• The D.C. Predictions: Seth dropped some specific breadcrumbs for Peggy’s trip, including meeting a woman in green, a broken clock, and a "man she will not like."
• The Room Scramble: Seth mentioned a discussion about national survival in room 312 (or maybe 321, or 421—psychic numbers can be slippery).
• The Pointed Handkerchief: He even spotted a man with a camera and a pointed, initialed handkerchief. Talk about high-definition psychic vision!
• A Seth Insight: "A talk concerning survival of your nation. Our friend the cat lover attends this discussion, perhaps in a room numbered 312... Survival is a strong issue here, though it may not be the title of the discussion, formally."

The Ultraviolet Napkin Mystery

During the 20th envelope test, things got weirdly specific. Jane and Robert had recently visited a discotheque, and the test object was a paper napkin from that night.

• The UV Glow: At the discotheque, ultraviolet lights made everything white look "blinding white." Seth picked up on this, describing "snow white" and "yellow as in sunlight."
• The Invisible Stains: In a hilarious twist, the UV lights had revealed a giant yellow stain on Jane’s blouse that was invisible in normal light. Seth’s data caught that "sunlight yellow" vibe perfectly.
• The Purple Discotheque: Seth accurately perceived "Purple. Large letters," which matched the reddish-blue (basically purple) "Discotheque" logo on the napkin.
• A Seth Insight: "The snow white referred to the colors, or to the color, rather, of the napkin in the light. The snow I used merely because the white was so blinding, and this led Ruburt to his own associations... But we managed to continue on after this, to deliver some fairly decent impressions."

Final Vibes and Homework

Seth wrapped up the session by telling Jane (Ruburt) to take a break from psychic stuff during Christmas week and suggested they both keep up with their yoga.
