Interview with Scott Young - Wall Street Journal best selling author of "Ultralearning" - and author of the amazing new book "Get Better At Anything: 12 Maxims for Mastery."
- Scott discusses the two things that sparked him to write this book.
- He talks about See, Do, and Feedback - the core things we need to do that determine how MUCH we learn.
- Scott talks about two interesting learning approaches - Master Learning and Direct Instruction - and the important role that the right blend of Success and Failure play in learning.
- Brain Training does NOT work! - he shares many results that show the truth about brain training.
- He reviews the three Learning Phases - Cognitive, Associative, and Autonomous. And talks about these in the context of the chapter in the book about Tiger's Swing Changes.
- A major chapter of the book is about the important role of Anxiety in Learning and Mastery. Scott shares some things we know about Anxiety that can reduce our ability to learn.
- I talked about what I called the "Facebook - YouTube Epidemic" - and he discussed this in the context of what he calls "The Curse of Knowledge." Find A Great Coach!
- He ended the book with this - "But reaching for mastery and failing to grasp it is a good way to fail. For even when we can't become the best, we can still be a little better at the things that matter most to us. A little better is often enough!" Scott talks about why he ended the book with this wisdom.
