Will and Probate both are commonly words after a persons death regards to his property. The difference between two is hardly recognisable but is very important to understand.. People normally tend to say I want to make a will and please also get the Will probated. The statement  itself shows that the said person have not understood that for probate he has to die.  will is the document which explains the wish of the person where as the probate authenticates the will after his demise.
