22: How To Identify and Debunk Impostor Syndrome

Imposter Syndrome can be defined as a collection of feelings of inadequacy that persist despite evident success. 'Imposters' suffer from chronic self-doubt and a sense of intellectual fraudulence that override any feelings of success or external proof of their competence.

 

Identifying
  • You feel like you got lucky (but you’re prepared)

  • You deflect from praise

  • You hold yourself to incredibly high standards

  • You find fear of failure almost paralyzing

  • You're convinced you're not good enough

  • Struggle with identifying your worth

     

In other words, this all reveals insecurities.

 

My Early Twenties (Career)
  1. Everything I thought of myself was challenged

  2. I placed my worth in my career but didn’t have one

  3. Struggled in all aspects

  4. I was a perfectionist and was looking for validation and overcompensated for the approvals of others anywhere I could

     

Relationships
  1. I couldn’t fully see my worth

  2. Insecurities are dangerous and can bring the ugly side of you out

     

Debunking

(Pull the receipts on yourself)

  1. You're in the room for a reason

  2. Your name was in the room before you even step foot in there

  3. You've worked for this moment in front of you

  4. Not knowing something is normal and ok

  5. Give yourself the opportunity to learn
