Before her pivot to academia, Dr. Frederick was an award-winning sports marketing and events management professional who held roles in collegiate athletics and professional sports. For well over a decade, she worked in the sports industry with roles at The Ohio State University Department of Athletics, NBA Orlando Magic, MLB Atlanta Braves, and North Carolina State University Department of Athletics, among others. Many notable career highlights included, but are not limited to: first ever WNBA Pre-Draft Camp, various NBA Draft and Playoff events, several NCAA playoff tournaments including men's and women's soccer as well as men's and women's college basketball as well as the inaugural Division 1A Athletic Director’s Association (now LEAD1) Sportsmanship Award for the Get "WITH" the Pack initiative. She also earned recognition by the NCAA and NACMA for leading one of the best marketing efforts for women's basketball.
She is most proud to have been part of the collaborative effort that launched the inaugural “Hoops for Hope” women’s basketball game in honor of Naismith Hall of Fame Coach Kay Yow, raising significant awareness and funding for breast cancer research. The effort served as the catalyst and predecessor to the now annual and nationwide Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Play4Kay series of games benefiting the Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund.
