Our physical health is one of the most important priorities we can set for ourselves. Most people associate physical health with weight or size. I like to look at physical health with a more holistic approach, focusing on the inside first. How do you feed your body and mind? How do you move the energy around in your body? Do you prefer activities that make you sweat or do you enjoy more soothing and flow-like movements? Are you satisfied with your current physical health? How does your body feel when you wake up in the morning? Are you sore or maybe stiff? Is there anything you can do to reduce any discomforts? Maybe reduce sodium or increase hydration? Is your body showing you signs on the outside that indicate there is something out of balance on the inside? Maybe skin conditions or excess weight around certain areas of your body? Figuring out what your body needs is the first step. Ask yourself, do you need aggressive movement? Nutrients? Nurturing movement? If you're not sure, then maybe start experimenting with your body and try one thing for a week, if it doesn't feel good or your mind isn't into it, then move onto the next one. Progress not Perfection here.
3 Ways To Improve Your Physical Health:
1. Move: Whether you're following a strict routine or you like to go with the flow, moving this beautiful vessel of a body is so important! Maybe going to the gym on a regular basis just isn't realistic for your current lifestyle. No worries, on the days I don't really feel like moving, I pop on some sweet tunes and dance around a few times a day to get that body moving. That's my preferred method of movement, but you can also look into more natural movements with Katie Bowman or Ido Portal.
2. Learn What Your Body Craves: Continued education is my go to. If you take a look at my bookshelf, you will find absolutely no pleasure reading. It's full of informational material. Same with my podcast preferences. I really enjoy listening to The Huberman Lab podcast (I'll link an episode with Ido Portal below). Learning what certain cravings indicate, such as when your mind/mouth is craving sugar or carbs, that usually means your body is actually craving protein.. that has been a major game changer for me!
3. Asana & Affirmations: Reprogramming your mind while you move your body is always my number one go to when working towards something. Bringing the awareness into your body and noticing what feels good and what doesn't as you move is such a great tool to figure out what you can be working on when it comes to physical health.
