22. The Terminology of "Given Up"

Listen Later

The hosts engage in a discussion regarding the terminology "given up." While it may feel natural to use this terminology when referring to objects, it is unthinkable to consider abandoning a person.  Is this mindset a result of societal influence? Can we reshape our perception of these words? The hosts unanimously agree that adoption is an intentional, conscious, loving and considerate act. Consequently, one host suggests that the phrase "given up" could potentially have a positive connotation if viewed as a gift. However, the other host counters this argument, asserting that the addition of the word "up" in "given up" implies a sense of surrender for the individual involved.  Jess and Shannon are eager to hear what you think, so please follow us on Instagram and Facebook and share your thoughts!
