The Nurse Practitioner’s Lifeline

22. Why those letters behind our names can't give us the fulfillment we thought they would.

Listen Later

The real reason why you wanted to become a nurse or practitioner, is not probably what you think it is. Unfortunately, most of us were actually trying to fulfill a deep personal meaning in our life that our degrees and careers could never do for us. And it's not probably what you think it is.

We go through years of unimaginable stress, balancing working while in school, often with a family to care for. We sacrifice time with family and friends and mental health because we know it will all be "worth it in the end". Just to realize that those letters after our names don't give us the meaning and purpose we originally thought they would.

Then, the guilt and pressure from that feeling of self-failure sets in, and we feel lost. If that is you, don't feel bad. You are not alone. You are not even in the minority, but the majority. Also, don't feel dismayed because it is not that that time is all lost, it's simply that your journey to self-fulfillment is not complete. In this episode, I want to share with you what I discovered in myself and how I freed myself from that pressure. I will also share how you too can take the tangible steps to find that freedom as well. This is the first step to anyone on a journey of needing more in their lives.
