2/27 New York Weather 6 PM: Clear Skies

Listen Later

Good morning. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz.
High pressure is running the show tonight. and honestly? It's doing a beautiful job. Clear skies, calm winds. and we've already climbed to 40 degrees after a chilly 24 degrees start. Not bad for late February.
In the next 24 hours. But this quiet evening is setting the stage for a wild weekend. A warm surge is pushing north ahead of a cold front. Saturday is the payoff. New York City touches 46 degrees. Albany hits 47. Syracuse reaches 45. That's the mildest air many of us have felt since mid January. The kind of afternoon where you leave your heavy coat in the car and don't regret it.
Now. Western New York, your night is a little different. That cold front arrives with rain between 2 and 5 A.M. Buffalo and Rochester, you'll hear it tapping the windows while you sleep. The rest of the state stays dry through Saturday afternoon.
Then the plot twist. Saturday night, a second and much stronger cold front barrels through. Snow showers statewide. Most spots pick up a coating to an inch. Western New York could see two inches. and behind that front comes the real gut punch. Arctic air floods in Sunday night. Albany drops to 7 degrees. Syracuse hits 9. Buffalo, 10. Monday's highs barely scratch the mid 20s upstate. The city holds near 31 degrees. That wind will find every gap in your jacket.
Looking ahead. Sunday and Monday are locked in the deep freeze. Then Tuesday the pattern loosens. Temperatures rebound into the 40s, but an active stretch moves in with multiple shots of rain and snow through late week.
One bright spot. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight every day now. Spring equinox is just three weeks out.
Charge up those phones tonight and enjoy that Saturday warmth while you've got it. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves.
Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
