2/28 Georgia Weather 6 PM: Flood Warning

Listen Later

Good evening. Georgia. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Folks, if you stepped outside today and thought. This is perfect? You're not wrong. A big high pressure system parked right over the Southeast is giving us textbook late February beauty. Clear skies. Light winds. The kind of evening where you leave the windows cracked.
In the next 24 hours. Right now Metro Atlanta is sitting at 69 degrees. Tonight drops to 48 under stars. Gentle stuff. Down in Savannah, you topped out at 65 with barely a breeze. Tonight falls to 47. and fog creeps in after 4 A.M. Keep that in mind if you're an early riser. Over in eastern Georgia, 60 degrees this afternoon. Patchy fog rolls in after midnight. and tonight dips to 45.
Sunday looks even better. Atlanta climbs to 75. Savannah matches it once the fog burns off by mid morning. and eastern Georgia? Hits 78 degrees. Warmest spot in the state.
Now enjoy that warmth. Because it won't last.
Sunday night, a sneaky backdoor cold front slides south and sets up what we call a wedge. Cool air gets trapped east of the Appalachians. Monday morning in north Georgia, you're barely cracking the 50s. Meanwhile south Georgia hangs in the upper 60s. That's a 45 degrees split across one state.
The wedge breaks Wednesday. Seventies return. Then things get wild. Thursday through next weekend, deep southwest flow pumps warm humid air northward. We're talking upper 70s to low 80s. Ten degrees above normal for early March. Scattered storms return by Thursday. and rain chances climb to likely by Friday.
We gained two minutes and four seconds of daylight today. Sunset at 6:34 P.M. Spring equinox is two weeks out.
I'll be tracking that cold front all night. You just enjoy the porch weather while it's here.
That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
For the extended outlook, check the latest forecast as confidence improves.
Stay safe, stay prepared. and enjoy the day.
