Good afternoon. Georgia. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Folks, watch that gray blanket lift right before your eyes this afternoon. High pressure is building in from the northwest to sweep away the gloom. We're already sitting at a mild 62 degrees. Metro Atlanta climbs to 69 degrees under sunny skies by late day. Head east toward Augusta and you'll hit 68 degrees. Down on the coast. Savannah reaches 65 degrees with a bit more of a north breeze off the water.
In the next 24 hours. Tonight, the pattern holds with mostly clear skies. Lows drop to the mid-40s statewide. but here's the thing. Calm air and lingering moisture mean patchy fog develops before dawn. Eastern Georgia sees it as early as 2 A.M. Coastal areas, watch out after 4 A.M. Sunday is the absolute pick of the weekend. A warm southwest flow pushes highs into the mid-70s. Eastern Georgia could touch 78 degrees. That's about 45 degrees above normal for late February. Enjoy it. Because a backdoor front slides through Sunday night.
Monday brings what we call a wedge pattern. Cool air dammed up against the Appalachians spills into Georgia from the northeast. Temperatures drop 45 degrees to 45 degrees from Sunday's highs. Metro Atlanta stays in the low 60s. You'll feel that easterly breeze gusting to 25 miles an hour.
Looking ahead. Wednesday warms back into the low 70s. By Thursday and Friday, we're talking upper 70s to near 80 degrees. Rain chances return late week as Gulf moisture flows north.
One note for Newton and Rockdale Counties. The Yellow River remains above flood stage but should recede by this evening.
Spring equinox is now just three weeks away. We're gaining over two minutes of daylight each day. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
