2/28 New York Weather 6 PM: Clear Skies

Listen Later

Good evening. New York. I'm Aaron Jolly.
Fifty two degrees and sunshine in the city right now. That warmth? It's living on borrowed time. An Alberta Clipper is racing southeast across the state, dragging a cold front behind it like a curtain slamming shut. By tomorrow night, some of you'll be staring at single digit temperatures. That's a 40 degrees freefall in about 36 hours.
In the next 24 hours. Down in the city, tonight's 52 slides to 32 with patchy fog rolling in. Sunday between 7 A.M. and 4 P.M., rain mixes with snow. Less than half an inch sticks. The real punch lands Sunday night. Lows crash to 18 degrees. Wind chills near 7. That kind of cold bites through whatever you're wearing.
Push north to the Capital Region. You're at 49 degrees now with gusty southwest winds. Snow arrives early Sunday morning. One to three inches possible, mainly before 3 P.M. Then Sunday night gets ugly. Low of 6 degrees. Wind chills dipping below zero.
Over in Western New York, 46 degrees and mostly sunny this afternoon. Snow starts after 8 P.M. Tonight and peaks around 1 A.M. With about an inch. Sunday's high barely touches 24 degrees. Sunday night drops to 10.
Central New York follows the same playbook. Snow showers likely after 11 P.M. Tonight. One to two inches by morning. Sunday night? Nine degrees.
Now the week ahead tells an interesting story. Monday stays cold and sunny. Twenties and thirties statewide. Tuesday brings another round of snow changing to rain. Then. The plot twist. Wednesday through Friday, temperatures surge into the 50s with multiple rounds of rain. We're gaining nearly three minutes of daylight. and the spring equinox is just 20 days out.
