Justin interviewed Coach Andrew Erby, who shared his experience coaching at Steelton-Highspire High School outside of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Erby started as a linebacker coach in 2008 and became the defensive coordinator around 2013, and eventually head coach in 2014. Andrew noted the influence of his former coach, Rob Dougler, and his love for the game in his return to coaching.
He also highlighted the value of his own experience as an athlete in his coaching. Both Justin and Andrew emphasized the importance of players' relationships with coaches and finding the right fit for themselves when choosing a program, considering academic aspects and the long-term career prospects. Coach Erby stressed the importance of communication with players and former players to understand the program and its outcomes. He also highlighted the need for planning, organization, and communication to manage a busy schedule, while also prioritizing the development of a strong program culture.
