For the past fifty years, the medical establishment and the U.S. government have preached the same basic dietary rules: eat lots of carbs, restrict fats and overall calories, and exercise more.
But rather than our population getting healthier from following these recommendations, the rates of diet-related diseases – including obesity, diabetes, hypertension, metabolic syndrome, and dementia – have continued to climb, and are projected to continue doing so into the future.
So what’s wrong with this prescription, and what should we be doing instead?
