Before Athena installed 200 Chivo ATM machines 30% of the population of El Salvador over the age of 15 held a bank account. Now three months later, 4 million Chivo accounts have been opened in a country with 6 million people. Bitcoin is a fintech revolution because 20 years after the introduction of PayPal a citizen of El Salvador still cannot link it to their bank account. Eric believes fintech has failed Latin America. Bitcoin fixes that.
