24: Delirium and Disney

Listen Later

Cheers! Episode 24 begins with Cliff proudly bringing along one of Belgium’s most famous beers — Delirium Tremens, the legendary strong pale ale known for its distinctive pink elephant logo. Before even getting to the tasting notes, Pete and Cliff find themselves wrestling with the pronunciation of Huyghe Brewery, which proves far trickier than expected. Once the linguistic gymnastics are over, the beer itself lives up to its reputation: strong, fruity, slightly spicy and dangerously drinkable for a beer with such a serious ABV.

The discussion naturally drifts into Belgium’s long brewing heritage, the rise of Trappist and abbey-style beers, and why Belgian brewing traditions have influenced craft brewers around the world. Pete and Cliff also discuss the surprisingly good food pairings that go with strong Belgian ales — cheese boards, seafood, roast chicken and even rich desserts.

With the beer flowing, the lads move into the main event: Top 10 Disney Movies of All Time. What begins as a nostalgic trip through childhood favourites quickly becomes a heated debate about animation, storytelling and musical numbers. Classics such as The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Frozen and Toy Story all come under scrutiny as Pete and Cliff argue about which films truly deserve a place in Disney history. They also reflect on how Disney evolved from hand-drawn animation classics into one of the most powerful entertainment studios in the world.

This episode also introduces a brand new segment: “Hoppy to Meet You!” — the show’s listener feedback corner. Pete and Cliff read out messages and comments from listeners around the world, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Ghana. Listeners share their thoughts on previous episodes, offer their own beer suggestions and challenge the hosts’ opinions on everything from gaming to movies.

Later in the show the conversation takes a thoughtful turn as Pete and Cliff debate the reliability of artificial intelligence. With AI tools becoming increasingly common in everyday life — from writing and research to news and entertainment — the hosts discuss whether we should trust the technology completely or remain sceptical of its occasional confident mistakes. The discussion moves between humour and philosophy as they explore how AI might shape the future of media, creativity and information.

Finally, the episode wraps up in classic Pints of View fashion with another Dad Joke-Off, where terrible puns compete for the biggest groan from the audience.
