#24 Fun facts about Canadian Animals

Listen Later

I have not been keen on animals in my entire life. I have been to some zoos or aquariums several times in special occasions such as school field trips. but I ended up being not so enthusiastic about watching any animals rather than human beings.

This should be totally fine unless you require the knowledge for some reason. here is the thing.

Being in preparation for an English exam for immigration, I feel like this lack of interest in animals affects me in many ways because there are tremendous topics or stories about Canadian animals or creatures. That's a huge headache. Then I started looking up Canadian animals as exam preparations but it was boring to me, even I was struggling to find the differences between these animals... In most cases, each looks alike to me same as how adults look, children or teenagers. they look the same to me!

today I will try to remember some of the Canadian animals with their fun facts! I think fun facts or fun habits could help me get interested in them. Let's see how it works.

According to Rocky Mountaineer, https://www.rockymountaineer.com/blog/10-interesting-facts-about-western-canadas-wildlife

there are several fun facts about Western Canadian Animals.

No.1 Black bears aren’t always black.

Black bears are one of the most recognizable and widespread bear species in North America.

Adult black bears typically weigh between 100 to 600 pounds. Despite the name says black, they can be blond, brown, cinnamon or occasionally white. when you look up the Cinnamon color version of black bear, they are like Ted, a main charachter of a popular movie, which looks so adorable.

Grizzly bears also can be blond or black, which means that coat colour is one of the least reliable ways to identify a bear.

No.2 Beavers are engineering geniuses.

The beaver is a large, primarily nocturnal, semi-aquatic rodent native to North America.

They are famous for the habit that builds their own house. but thing is the average beaver cuts down 216 trees in a year and can fell trees up to 40 cm in diameter. They are almost like a professional gardener such amount of trees they cut. They do this so they can eat the delicious bark, and to build their dams and lodges to live in. since I cannot build my house by myself, I am sure they are smarter than me.

No.3 Moose are powerful swimmers.

The moose is the largest member of the deer family, known for its impressive size and distinctive antlers. Surprisingly, Moose are able to swim soon after birth, and can dive down 5.5 metres (18 feet) to graze on lilies and other water plants at the bottom of a lake. Moose have been known to swim up to 19 km (12 miles). They are larger than most people expect them to be and it is rare to spot one. I am wondering do they truly have to be deers?

No5. Canada geese are sentimental softies.

Canada geese mate for life, although they will find a new mate if one of them dies. They often mate in the same place as their parents, using the same nests each year.

That's gross to me. I don't feel empathy with them at all.

That's all for today's episode. Now I think I could remember these weird animals at least. Do you know any fun facts of the animals? Any favorite animals or mysterious pets? Please let me know anything you want to talk or question.
