24. Supporting Women of Color in Holding Leadership in the Workplace and Embodying True Self-Care with Mariela De La Mora

Listen Later

Three years ago, I went to a conference to support a friend and I came away with a leadership coach that would ultimately change my life. Today, I'm joined by Mariela De La Mora, a leadership coach and eldest daughter of immigrants who has made it her mission to empower WOC and daughters of immigrants who want to break glass ceilings.

I came to Mariela at one of my lowest points. I was grieving my father and struggling to keep up with the growing demands of my job. I knew I still had this burning desire to keep growing and going - I just didn't have it in me to brute force my way through it as I had done in the past.

That's where Mariela stepped in. Over the course of our time together, Mariela has been a source of deep listening and attention. When I came together, I had no idea what I really wanted or needed from her, I just knew I needed support. And it actually started with Mariela asking me a lot of questions that would eventually get to the heart of my needs and desires.

So if you're feeling like you're in need of support but you're unsure where to start and don't know what questions to ask - rest assured that you don't have to start with all of the answers.

In this episode, we're chatting about:

  • Mariela's journey from Marketing Executive to Leadership coach
  • How to assess your capacity when you're approaching burnout
  • Why WOC and daughters of immigrants need to be coached differently
  • Changing your perspective on imposter syndrome
  • The reality of code-switching
