#24 You have to be PERFECT?

Are you a perfectionist? With constant and omnipresent pressure on yourself to always be, do, and deliver PERFECTION? This is a subject that comes up quite regularly with my 1:1 coaching clients. Their struggles with the feeling that they HAVE to be perfect. And of course, their pain and suffering when they feel they didn't reach perfection. When there was a tiny mistake, a shortcoming, or perhaps just the lack of an acknowledgment of their "performance". One of my clients expressed that she HAS to be perfect, and if she isn't, she will beat herself up about it in an eternal process with a downward thinking cycle that makes her nothing less than miserable and unhappy. I asked her "do you do the same thing to others, when they make a little mistake"? No, I would never do that to someone else, she says. When I ask why, she immediately answers: I don't want to hurt them. So, million-dollar question: why do it to yourself? If this is something you struggle with, I hope this new perspective gives you a sense of hope that you can start taking control of these thoughts in a new way.
