247: DMC: Mainstream Hip Hop Creates Homicide and Genocide

Listen Later

"The music business is the music business. The company is only in the business to sell records but it's deeper than that for hip hop," Darryl "DMC." McDaniels, one of the founding members of the hip hop group Run–D.M.C, tells Tim on The Library during their interview. "By doing that you do a disservice to the youth, you do a disservice to the people who you promote and sell these records to. You create homicide and genocide....The artists who are in that position to do that are reluctant to be responsible. There's a lack of responsibility with the labels that put out our music and the artists who are profiting off of our music."

Part 1 of The Library with Tim Einenkel's interview with DMC will be up Tuesday, 4/21/15
