<sample conversation>
A: So you mentioned that you have low back pain. Can you tell me what kind of movements makes your pain worse?
B: Anything that involves bending down. Like when I wash my face in the morning. Also, coming back up from bent position gives me sharp pain.
A: I see. Is there a particular body position that makes your pain better?
B: Lying down on my side is the only position that doesn't hurt.
A: Alright. Does your pain stay constant or does it come and go? In other words, does it subside once your body warms up, or does nothing really help?
B: Well, I guess it's a bit of both. The pain is always there but the intensity changes. I feel somewhat better when I keep my body moving and get warmed up.
A: Okay. Super helpful to know. Thanks. On a scale of one to ten, how bad is your pain with ten being the worst pain imaginable? Give me two separate numbers: one for the worst pain you experience during the day, and another for when the pain is somewhat better.
B: I'd say around seven for the worst pain, and maybe a four when my body is warmed up.
