Toni and Emily talk dive into the topic of raw feeding for dogs. This is a category of feeding that is both controversial and growing in the pet industry. Toni and Emily are both big advocates for raw feeding, and are excited to start the conversation with their listeners about it. • So, raw food is: giving your dog completely raw foods like fruits, vegetables, meat, organs, and bones. There are a lot of raw commercial dog food brands out there now, and almost all pet stores have some sort of raw or fresh food option these days. The great thing about Raw feeding is that it can be used complementarity with kibble or canned food, or can be fed on its own.
• Secondly, Toni and Emily talk about the big thing about and behind raw food is the bioavailability aspect. Because the food is less processed the body is able to absorb more of the nutrients quicker and more efficiently, therefore you typically will feed your animal WAY less of the food compared to what you are used to seeing with Kibble. This means that your dog will be far more hydrated, and have much smaller BM's because there is less that the body needs to eliminate and less urination because the body is using all the hydration internally and efficiently.
• Finally Toni and Emily talk about how they feed their dogs raw food. They both have a more relaxed system of cleaning and food handling when it comes to raw food compared to what most people are told to do. They rotate between various brands, and both love to try new foods out there. When it comes to thawing their food, Toni and Emily have a similar approach, where they let it thaw overnight or in the refrigerator and then feed directly to their dogs. All of their animals on raw food are thriving, and have never been sick from raw food, they have beautiful coats, a solid digestive tract and incredible muscle tone.
