This week on The Library, we hear part 2 of Tim's interview with Darryl “DMC” McDaniels, hip hop legend and one of the founding members of the legendary group Run-DMC. DMC talks why he never cared for the business side of rap, his thoughts on Kendrick Lamar and how his writing changed after meeting Sarah McLachlan.
He tells Tim:
“I was just pretending to be an Emcee like all the dudes before me. It wasn't for showbiz...When I started writing rhymes and messing with my brother's turntables, it was like me playing with my G.I. Joe or pretending I'm batman or playing with my army men...It was all make believe....After that Sarah McLachlan meeting, it pushed my responsibility, it made it worse for me because now I carry a heavier load....It made my representation of Hip Hop more responsible. Because now I have a tool, a superpower and a gift that I must use at this point in my life.”
