📖 Luke 6:12–16 (ESV)
12 In these days he went out to the mountain to pray, and all night he continued in prayer to God.
13 And when day came, he called his disciples and chose from them twelve, whom he named apostles:
14 Simon, whom he named Peter, and Andrew his brother, and James and John, and Philip, and Bartholomew,
15 and Matthew, and Thomas, and James the son of Alphaeus, and Simon who was called the Zealot,
16 and Judas the son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Before choosing the twelve apostles—men who would become pillars of the early church—Jesus spent the entire night in prayer.
He withdrew to the mountain, seeking the Father’s guidance. This is the only recorded instance in Scripture where Jesus prayed all night. It reveals the weight of the decision before Him and His complete dependence on the Father.
This passage teaches us:
✔ Major decisions must be bathed in prayer
✔ Jesus models humility and dependence despite His divinity
✔ God chooses ordinary people for extraordinary mission
✔ True leadership begins with communion with the Father
✔ Prayer aligns us with God’s will, not our own
🎧 Be encouraged to follow Jesus’ example—seeking God deeply before making life-shaping decisions.
