📖 Luke 6:20–23 (ESV)
20 And he lifted up his eyes on his disciples, and said:
“Blessed are you who are poor, for yours is the kingdom of God.
21 Blessed are you who are hungry now, for you shall be satisfied.
Blessed are you who weep now, for you shall laugh.
22 Blessed are you when people hate you and when they exclude you and revile you and spurn your name as evil, on account of the Son of Man!
23 Rejoice in that day, and leap for joy, for behold, your reward is great in heaven; for so their fathers did to the prophets.”
Jesus opens His Sermon on the Plain with a radical declaration:
True blessing is not found in comfort, wealth, or applause—
it is found in belonging to the kingdom of God.
This passage teaches us:
✔ The poor in this world are rich in God’s kingdom
✔ Those who hunger now will be filled by God
✔ Tears will turn into laughter for those who trust Him
✔ Persecution for Christ is a privilege, not a punishment
✔ Heaven’s reward outweighs earthly suffering
The Beatitudes remind us that the values of God’s kingdom reverse the world’s definitions of success and happiness. Followers of Jesus can rejoice even in hardship because their hope is anchored in eternity.
🎧 Be strengthened today: earthly suffering will be replaced with heavenly joy.
