📖 Luke 6:24–26 (ESV)
24 “But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
25 “Woe to you who are full now, for you shall be hungry.
“Woe to you who laugh now, for you shall mourn and weep.
26 “Woe to you, when all people speak well of you, for so their fathers did to the false prophets.”
After declaring the Beatitudes (blessings), Jesus now announces four woes—a sobering warning to those who find their comfort and identity in this world. The contrast is sharp: while disciples may suffer now and rejoice later, those who live for earthly satisfaction will experience the opposite.
This passage teaches us:
✔ Earthly riches offer temporary comfort
✔ Self-satisfaction blinds people to their spiritual need
✔ Worldly laughter often masks spiritual emptiness
✔ The praise of people can be dangerous when it comes at the expense of truth
✔ Those who follow the path of the false prophets will share their fate
Jesus is not condemning wealth, food, or joy—He is warning against a heart that trusts in them instead of God.
🎧 Be reminded today: temporary comfort is no substitute for eternal joy.
