📖 Luke 6:37–38 (ESV)
37 “Judge not, and you will not be judged; condemn not, and you will not be condemned; forgive, and you will be forgiven;
38 give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap.
For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
Jesus’ words here are often quoted but rarely understood in context.
He is not forbidding discernment—He is forbidding a condemning, self-righteous spirit.
The command is rooted in the previous teachings on mercy, forgiveness, and love for enemies.
This passage teaches:
✔ Judging harshly invites judgment back on us
✔ Condemning others destroys compassion
✔ Forgiving releases both the offender and our own hearts
✔ God responds generously to a generous spirit
✔ Our treatment of others reveals our understanding of God’s grace
The heart posture Jesus calls for is one of mercy—because we ourselves have received mercy.
🎧 Let this episode remind you: the forgiven must forgive, the loved must love, and the merciful reflect their Father.
