Social hierarchies are broadly defined as systems of social organization in which some individuals enjoy a higher social status than others. The illusion surrounding these hierarchies is a modern adaptation where individuals misinterpret the concept of "fake it till you make it" and actually start treating others(often poorly) based on who they think they are.
