Hey y’all,

January-March is in many ways a little bit of a nebulous time of year. Summer Blockbusters haven’t started, it isn’t Holiday Movie season, and many of your serious award contenders have yet to come out. So what are we supposed to talk about? 

The same thing we did last year: Black History and Excellence my dudes. 

Throughout history, but even in the last year alone, there have been incredible, powerful, transcendent pieces of art that shaped generations of artists and cinema lovers. So all month long, we’re celebrating. 

To begin, we’re reviewing 2022’s The Woman King. The film is based on a true story and was considered an awards favorite. We’ll discuss how well it handles that history, whether it was a true contender or an Award Bait flick, and more. 

Beyond our review, we’ll also be discussing the new changes at Netflix, as well as James Gunn’s big DC Studios announcement. And of course, be sure to check out last week’s episode.
