National Park Junior Ranger Podcast

26: Trail Lovers #6: Golden Gate National Recreation Area: An Urban Wilderness

Listen Later

Today, we’re heading to the San Francisco Bay area to discuss the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.  We explore the natural beauty of the area, learning about the formation and geological history, its Indigenous heritage, the diverse plants and animals that inhabit the area, the park's establishment, how to access the park, a few trails we hiked while we were there and thoroughly enjoyed, and then work through a Junior Ranger activity together.

Junior Rangers are explorers, learning all about the park’s ecosystems, plants and animals, and how to protect nature.  The Junior Ranger program is not just for kids; it's for the young, and the young at heart!
