Repetition in and of itself isn’t good or bad. There are two types of repetition in writing: deliberate and unintentional. Deliberate repetition can be used powerfully for rhetorical effect: you can repeat a word, a phrase, a clause, a sentence, or an idea to create emphasis. Unintentional repetition is negative because it shows a lack of focus and conciseness. While the repetition of ideas can improve retention, any repetition should be deliberate. When writing, make sure you remember what you’ve written before to make sure you’re not accidentally repeating yourself.
