263. Million-Dollar Words: When to Use Them

Listen Later

The beautiful thing about the English language is that there is a word for every possible nuance. The more precise your words, the better your writing. As such, there are million-dollar words—words that show exactly what you mean and create an image in your reader’s mind. These words will make you an unforgettable writer. The problem, however, is that some members of your audience may not understand these million-dollar words. As such, you should use the million-dollar words only when you know they convey so much meaning that it’s worth sending your reader to the dictionary. In other words, assume your reader won’t know the word and ask yourself if it’s a word worth knowing.
