If you’ve ever experienced a delicious meal at the Artisan Grill, you have visited the site of the former White Horse Hotel. As we walk through the Doors of Heritage for today's episode we will learn the history of the White Horse Hotel owned by William Horseman with and welcome the current business owner from Artisan Grill.


Local historians Robert Honor and Stephanie Pouget Papak, will provide an overview of the White Horse Hotel. Robert is a native of Amherstburg and retired from Parks Canada at Fort Malden National Historic Site of Canada. His Interests are fine arts, architecture and heritage. Robert is an artist, member of Amherstburg Heritage Committee, Belle Vue Conservancy and Architectural Conservancy of Ontario. Stephanie is a historian who studied History and Education at the University of Windsor. Her current research examines culinary history, local History and history of sexuality. She works in museum curation and is a member of two historical committees. We are also honoured to have the current tenants of this building, Matthew from Artisan Grill.


Owner and Chef of the Artisan Grill. Mathew is a sole Proprietor that opened on fall of 2012. After an extensive career in the Culinary Arts that include prestigious locations like the Chateau Lake Louise. He decided to open up the Artisan Grill In historic downtown Amherstburg.

His passion from childhood was to become a Chef and Restaurateur. His passion to provide outstanding culinary experience while enjoying high quality service with a high level of attention to detail. His Amherstburg location is supported by an outstanding team of professionals that have an equal passion for hospitality.
