DOUBT. DEATH. DECAPITATED.
She went out and said to her mother, “What shall I ask for?” “The head of John the Baptist,” she answered.
(Mark 6:24 NIV)
A tad grim, isn't it?!
John’s martyrdom can easily go unnoticed. And I’m sure he’ll prefer that as his ministry was solely focused on preparing the way for Jesus. Which, even in his death; it does.
But the real tragedy isn’t so much death… but the choices leading to death. Herod’s wavering doubt clouded by his earthly desires prohibits him from choosing to act ‘justly’. He was THIS close to accepting John’s message of repentance of sin… so close, yet so far…
