Husband in Law

28: The Aftermath

Listen Later

In this episode, Steve and Jessica will share what life was like for each of them during their separation. They will reminisce about how they spent their Thanksgiving that year, and talk about their cooking skills, or lack thereof for Steve. When they separated Jessica was in Boise living in their old house and working with a lawyer on their divorce papers, while Steve was in Oklahoma.

Even though it was emotionally challenging for them to spend time together, Steve would always make sure he came up every third weekend or so to see Penny and spend some quality time with her. Jessica was out of work and Steve was very supportive of her through it all. She was getting plenty of job offers but didn’t feel emotionally ready to go out to work, so she had to cut back on a lot of her and Penny’s expenses to manage with what she was getting.

The separation was an opportune time for Steve to start dressing like a gay man, and he was loving it. He will talk about all the false perceptions of masculinity that he used to have when they were married and share what he was going through when he started becoming suicidal from feeling overwhelmed by everything that was happening. Jessica was there for him through it all and will talk about how she helped him move forward from that. You’ll wanna stay tuned to hear more about how they coped all through that period to build the amazing relationship they have now.
