Listen Later

This week, Mike struggles to explain his taste in movies, and the three discuss recent films and TV shows in general. Later, "old man Mike" makes another appearance, and the guys talk about the iPhone X – what they like, and what they dislike.

  • Batman vs Bane — Mike here! This is my favourite scene from The Dark Knight Rises. For clarification on my movie preferences, I like to see heroes that are flawed and vulnerable (mentally and physically), face off against villains that are hyper evil and willing to do whatever it takes to win. Because in my opinion it makes for way more interesting characters and a much better narrative than the typical superhero Hollywood blockbuster. In many ways, I think having a good villain is more important than having a good hero. I don't like it when the hero is portrayed as infinitely pure, and seemingly invulnerable to harm, because it's too easy and not realistic. I much prefer realism to surrealism or fantasy, but they can overlap in ways I enjoy – Lord Of The Rings is a good example. I also hate excessive music in film, and this clip has NONE until the last 80 seconds, but it's still very subtle... Thrilling, and chilling. Two thumbs WAY UP for the Dark Knight movies!
