Over $1.8bn worth of royalties have been paid out to creators of Ethereum-based NFT collections. However, major debates have sparked between creators and NFT marketplaces. As it stands, royalties are not actually programmed at the token/smart-contract level thus forcing NFT marketplaces to ignore socially enforced by norms and cut royalties to 0% in order to compete with other marketplaces.
