The D&Igest: Diversity & Inclusion at work

29. Becoming trauma informed humans and leaders, in an endemic world with Natalia Rachel

Listen Later

Our coping mechanisms are there for a reason, but we’re not meant to be in survival mode forever.

In this episode, we speak with Natalia Rachel - author, speaker, trauma-informed therapist and consultant. We dive into Natalia’s journey and discover how her traumatic childhood led her to help others with trauma. Her career began in fashion and marketing. And after taking some time to be a mother and focus on her own healing journey, she decided to use her lived experiences to support others on similar journeys.

Natalia shares her insights into how corporate culture doesn’t always do the right thing when it comes to trauma. Corporate environments often don’t lend themselves to allow for personal healing journeys. We learn how being more aware of trauma can create better-performing teams, and how leaders can open up the conversation and support the healing process of those affected.

We also speak about -

  • Natalia’s new book - Why Am I Like This?
  • The different types of trauma
  • What are the symptoms of trauma?
  • Being triggered - and how it can actually be part of the healing process
  • Why do some organisations refuse to work with Natalia?
  • How has the pandemic changed our approach to trauma and mental health?
  • Natalia has a lot to share in this episode that can help us all understand trauma a little better.
