Why did some of the first Nokia cellphones come with customisable back covers, and coloured key rings? As it turns out, the things that look good and pretty to us, are more likely to be tried, to be accepted, to be displayed, and even to be repeatedly used, than ugly things. This happens because beautiful-looking things - aesthetic objects - are perceived to be way easier to use, than ugly things. This is the Aesthetic-Usability effect - based on an excerpt from the Universal Principles of Design.
