2GW offshore wind farm proposed for Gippsland coast

Listen Later

In this podcast, Beyond Zero radio's Anthony Daniele and Matt Grantham talk to Andy Evans, Managing Director of Offshore Energy, a Victorian-based company established in 2012 to identify suitable locations off the coast of Australia for the development of offshore wind energy projects. Andy Evans (formerly working with Acciona) has recently gained public support from the Victorian government, investors and is in talks with the CEFC for the proposed 250 turbine project, looking at depths ranging between 20 metres and 40 metres off the Gippsland coast in Victoria's east.
"The Gippsland coast was chosen for its high quality wind resource (providing high capacity factors of over 40%) and close proximity to existing infrastructure, with plans to run 95km of undersea and underground high voltage transmission cables (4 cables each of 500MW capacity) directly to an existing connection point on the Victorian grid in the Latrobe Valley.”
