What year did the first “mini-game” appear? We don’t know either, and I refused to look it up. But it sure wasn’t our original TTRPG; Afterlife. The best thing about mini-games is you can use them in any system because mini-games have completely different rules/gameplay than the larger rule system. Or at least they should in our opinion.
