TRUST in the LORD
Proverbs 3:5-6 (NKJV) – [5] Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; [6] in all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths.
1. Trust in the LORD instills confidence.
Trust (batach) means to hie (to go quickly or in haste) for refuge; to be confident or sure; to be bold or secure; to confide in. (Multiple Sources)
Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NIV) – [7] “But blessed is the man who TRUSTS in the Lord, whose CONFIDENCE is in him. [8] He will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
2. Trust in the LORD inspires hope.
“The man who believes God is he who having received a revelation from Him, realizes it, and accepts it as true. The man who trusts God is he who casts all his hopes for the present and future on God.” (Synonyms of the Old Testament)
Romans 15:13 (NIV) – [13] May the God of HOPE fill you with all joy and peace as you TRUST in him, so that you may overflow with HOPE by the power of the Holy Spirit.
3. Trust in the LORD requires waiting.
Psalms 33:20-22 (NIV) – [20] We WAIT in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. [21] In him our hearts rejoice, for we TRUST in his holy name. [22] May your unfailing love rest upon us, O Lord, even as we put our hope in you.
Psalms 40:1-3 (NIV) – [1] I WAITED patiently for the Lord; he turned to me and heard my cry. [2] He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand. [3] He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear and put their TRUST in the Lord.
4. Trust in the LORD removes shame.
Psalms 25:1-3 (NIV) – [1] To you, O Lord, I lift up my soul; [2] in you I TRUST, O my God. Do not let me be put to SHAME, nor let my enemies triumph over me. [3] No one whose hope is in you will ever be put to SHAME, but they will be put to SHAME who are treacherous without excuse.
5. Trust in the LORD overcomes fear.
Isaiah 12:2 (NIV) – [2] Surely God is my salvation; I will TRUST and not be AFRAID. The Lord, the Lord, is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation.
Psalms 56:3-4 (NIV) – [3] When I am AFRAID, I will TRUST in you. [4] In God, whose word I praise, in God I TRUST; I will not be AFRAID. What can mortal man do to me?
