3. A Different View of Decision-Making

Listen Later

Beyond the Pod: As the year winds down, I’m having conversations with folks who are curious about coaching and who want to explore working together in 2024. For all prospective clients, I walk them through a very cool process in which we clarify their goals and decide whether this is a good fit. The process is complimentary, easy going, and super valuable. If you or someone you know might be interested, check out what the first step looks like.

In this week’s 5-minute podcast, I talk about how we often misunderstand the way decisions are made, especially in our own lives.

I share my own experience about the decision to start my own business. Perhaps surprisingly, it wasn’t the classic, logical model of decision-making in which I started with a problem, collected information, looked at alternatives, created consensus, and moved forward. In my case, there was a truth that was just so clear it became unavoidable. The decision made itself and I followed.

I find “The Decision Makes Itself” concept super compelling because it can make some of the hardest and most fulfilling turning points in your life feel quite easy and inevitable. It allows you to spend your energy on moving yourself forward rather than staying stuck and deciding what to do.

If you’re in the midst of trying to gain clarity on a decision, consider:

* Is there a truth in this situation that’s already quite clear? Can this truth help the decision make itself?

* If so, what does that empower you to do next?

* If not, what other information would you need before that truth becomes the decision?

And, of course, how can “The Decision Makes Itself” concept allow you to be more Courageous in your life? How might it give you permission to move toward yourself with more clarity and speed?
